Product Reviews question

Postby FredW » Fri Dec 13, 2013 3:44 pm

Hi Folks,

We are running a template where the product reviews are displayed on the More information page. However, if we approve reviews for those products that have no More Information pages, there is no way for our customers to see the reviews. They see the number of stars for the review where the products are listed in various pages, but there is no way to see the reviews.

I have yet to find an easy way to find if a product has a More Information page from the pending review page, making the task more difficult to manage reviews.

Wonder if anybody else has encountered a way to deal with this better than checking each review to see if a More Information page is created and if not create one, review by review.

I have thought of creating a more information page for all our 9,000 products, but am concerned that that may create other issues.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance
Fred

As long as you have content for a more information page for each product there isn't any reason to not have one unless your disk space is so limited that you would run out of room when they are all published. The html pages themselves are generally small because all they usually contain is text and links to images. The images are generally the largest part of a page content but those are not stored in the html, they are read in when the page is loaded.

Having a bunch of reviews on a page with lots of products would be confusing so it is best to just have the actual reviews on the moreinfo pages.

Fred, I purposely have a "More Information" page for every product. This not only allows me to add more information, of course, but also allows me to send someone a direct link to ONE product if they inquire about it specifically. Of course this also allows all reviews to be easily published without needing to check item by item.

You can "power edit" all your products and just find the " Check here to create a More Info page" check-box and enable it.

If you just have reviews, then people will see that, but I generally try to have additional information not found on the main page, whether that is a recipe or whatever. (I run a food based website selling various gourmet products, so the more info page gives them ideas on how to use each product). Sometimes I just copy/paste a small part of the "product description" in the "More Info Page Text" field. This way when I send someone a direct link to that one specific product, they have something to read. And you can do that quickly and easily as well with the "power edit" option.

Hope this helps a little.
