Combining Items with Different Ordering Options

I've found a bit of a bug in the latest SS version. When using the custom ordering options feature with the orderAnywhere HTML forms, the cart combines multiple items that have different options into the same line item with the updated quantity. The cart saves the first custom options, and discards the rest.

Is there a way to block the combining of items for a particular SKU or does it have to be store wide?

Adding multiple 'Engraving' with different copy and instructions in each will show the issue.

The only way to prevent multiple items being combined in the cart in this situation is to disable the option on Commerce Setup > Order System > Shopping cart by unchecking the box Combine Same Products.

You are using custom code to manipulate the order option feature to use it as a text input field. This overrides the checking of the order options since there is no known state for the finopt value like there would be if the order options were select options in a pulldown.
