Shipping Questions

Postby Bill Niemeyer » Thu Mar 27, 2003 1:20 pm

I am setting up Shopsite Manager 6.1.1 for a client and have shipping
related questions.

Using UPS and the automated shipping cost lookup system. For international
the overseas UPS shipping methods are stupidly expensive (four times what
air post would cost). As a workaround I disabled the overseas UPS methods,
enabled Shipping by Weight (as well as UPS) with a single option called
"International Air Post (we will email you with cost)" with a cost of zero.

Question 1 - is there a more sensible way to handle UPS to US/Canada and air
post to all other countries?

Question 2 - is there a way to get the US (where bulk of sales will be) to
come up as the default country in the countries pull down menu, right now
it's the first alphabetically (Argentina)

Question 3 - on certain items - we want to offer free ground shipping in the
US - but there seems to no way to specify that specifically or "no shipping
charge" in general on a per item basis.

One extra non-shipping question - is there a way to disable the ShopSite
store URL (we aren't using that) from appearing at the bottom of the email
receipt?

Thanks

Answer 2: In v6.1.1 you can get a specific country as the default in the list of
you edit the countries.dat file in your store's ShopSite Data Directory and move
the line for that country to the top. Or you can upgrade to v6.2.1 where the
ability to specify a default country was added to the Commerce Setup -> States
and Countries menu.

Extra question answer: The Store URL on the bottom of the email receipt comes
from the Preferences -> Hosting Service setting for the 'My Store URL'. I don't
think just removing it will work, but you can try replacing it with a blank
space. The label 'Store URL:' itself comes from the setting in Preferences ->
Store Text -> Receipts, likewise you can't just delete it, you would have to
replace it with a space. Perhaps you would simply like to change the URL to one
you ARE using, though, in which case changing the My Store URL setting will do
that.

Loren,

Thanks very much for the answers - made the changes just fine.

Any answers to the other two questions?

Question 1 - is there a more sensible way to handle UPS to US/Canada and
air
post to all other countries?

Question 3 - on certain items - we want to offer free ground shipping in
the
US - but there seems to no way to specify that specifically or "no

Also, have a question on how to upgrade. We are getting the ShopSite
service through Verio. Does that mean we have to convince them to upgrade?
Shouldn't they just have the most current version anyway? How would we get
an upgrade to happen?

I have another store that I manage using ShopSite provided by Verio and it's
on version 5 still.

Thanks,

Bill

No, no ideas on the other two. As far as I know, the newest ShopSite
version Verio has on their IRIX 'Shared' platform is 6.1.1. They go
through their own business, dev, and testing process before they will
upgrade to newer versions, so, no, they do not always just automatically
have the latest. Not sure when they are planning on upgrading. As far as
your v5 store on Verio goes, you can probably ask them to upgrade it. I
don't think they automatically upgrade anyone.

You are right Loren. Verio will not auto upgrade. You have to ask.
