returning to top of page vs. middle of page with add to cart

Looked through the forum and did some searches but could not find this answer.

I also looked at Commerce > Order System > Shopping Cart and did not see any relevant option/checkbox.

Maybe someone can help.

Using ShopSite® Pro 11 sp2 r4.

Assume a long page of items. Such as http://www.gourmet-delights.com/store/everything.html

Scroll part way down and you see something you want. So you add it to your cart. You are returned to the TOP of the page.

This means you need to scroll down quite a bit to be back to where you wanted to be to continue shopping. Frustrating.

Is there some way to return to where you were, the product you were on, when you added it to your cart? Basically continuing to shop without having to go through products you've already viewed.

The shopping cart uses the "referrer" information passed by the browser when the product is added to the cart to know where the shopper should be returned. Since the referrer information is just the url to the page the product is on, I don't think there is a way to get it to go back directly to the location on the page where the shopper was when the order button was clicked.

I was hoping there was something with Anchors or the ID Attribute that would help.... anyone have ideas?

The only way this would be possible would be to use JavaScript and AJAX to capture the add to cart action, and submit it silently via AJAX. This way the customer never actually leaves the page they are on. It's complicated, but it can be done.

We have an add-on coming out in the next month that does just this. It uses Ajax to add to the cart without taking the visitor off the page...
