Uploading Databases

I am using a demo store to build a new site for my exsisting store. When i uploaded the products to my demo store it did not upload some of them/did not assign subproducts correctly. My question is, if I download my product database from the demo, and then upload it into the existing store, will it replace the entire database, or simply replace duplicates and add any additional products? The demo is almost completely done, and it seems to make more sense to upload the bulk of it into the real store and fine-tooth comb it there if there is a possibility info will be lost in the up/download rather than do it in the Demo store only to do it all over again.

Uploading does not delete any products (or pages). If a Product (or page) already exists in the database and the name matches exactly the upload information will be applied to that product (page). If you have SKU values assigned to products you can specify to match based on the sku or name. If you have ShopSite 11 there is another option to match on the product GUID which will be unique for each product. When you upload you can specify if you want to Add new items or ignore any that don't already exist in the database.
