I would expect this or something similar and configurable in the 'Shipping and Download Information' section of the Product Info screen.

There is nothing built in to ShopSite to handle such a situation. It could be done with a custom shipping api.

You could also add text to the product option text field to state this but it would not prevent an order from going through without the shopper contacting the merchant before actually placing the order.

You could also add some javascript to the shopping cart to check if any product's weight exceeds the maximum for your shipping carrier and display a message asking them to contact the merchant for shipping charge and that it will be added on to their purchase price when the product is shipped.

If I understand you correctly, we have implemented this exact type of situation with some of our products without using Javascript, but rather just the options in products. If you are interested, I can explain it.

That's pretty clean, Fred! Pretty much exactly what we need.

I'd love to hear more (like the actual javascript code and where you reference it in the application.)

I am much better at modifying existing code than coming up with it from scratch, though if you're uncomfortable with sharing that, maybe you would be so kind as to describe it in pseudo-code and leave me to wreak my own havoc.

Hello Trusdell,

No Javascript needed.

For the 'oversize' products that fit your criteria where you want them to contact you, try this:

1. Under Edit Product Info in the Shipping and Download Information section, in the 'Shipping Dimensions' check that option and enter 99x99x99 for LxWxH. That stops Postal, UPS, or FedEx for being able to ship it. It is too large for them.
2. In the Ordering Options section, in the "Order Options Description:" enter "Oversize - Please contact vender for shipping info"
3. Save and publish.

We are using ShopSite Pro 11 sp2 r5.1,, and I hope that is either what you are using or is an option in the version of ShopSite you use.
