Porting products from OsCommerce to ShopSite

Hi everyone.

I am moving my store from osCommerce to ShopSite and need some help with porting products. I have a little under 1000 products and definitely moving them manually would be a lot of time.

Writing a custom port script is my last resort, but the database structure and little things here and there are so complicated, that it will also take a lot of time.

What would be the best way of porting products from osCommerce to ShopSite? Are there any scripts/modules available?

If you can export your osCommerce data into something like Excel, all you have to do is match up the field names in OsCommerce to the field names in ShopSite, and you can import your Excel sheet directly into ShopSite. It's pretty easy.

If you're not sure on the format, you can create a test product in ShopSite, then download a tab delimited text file under:
Utilities -> Database -> Download -> Products

and open that file up in Excel.

Thank you Rob. I will try to do this as soon as I am done with the template part of the site.

Also, I am still a bit in doubts about this method because of the way osCommerce and ShopSite handle categorization.

I think this issue is no longer a relevant one for alexus2005 but for those who may have a similar experience I would advice to use this service http://www.shopping-cart-migration.com
It can move products from oscommerce to shopsite. It is paid and doesn't take care of design migration but still it is much easier and faster than exporting/importing files to and from excel.
