Product search

Postby palex » Mon Oct 15, 2012 10:52 am

Hello,
At one point I was able to have a search return a list of matching products without having to create a product page for each. This is no longer functioning. What setting(s) need to be in place for this?

Thanks!

I don't understand your question. Can you give a url to your site and a search term to use. Then explain what you are seeing and what you want to see?

There is the product search destination that is configured on each product. If it is set to Store the search link will go to a page the product is on. If it is set to MoreInfo the search link will go to the Moreinfo page. If it is set to Made, ShopSite will generate a page on the fly for the product.

You can also specify a specific page url where you want the search link to go. This option would be useful if you are using OrderAnywhere links and not creating pages in ShopSite.

Hi Jim,
Thanks... it was the "Made" setting that was the issue. On another note, that simple search template that you had created for my site is no longer working... I have no idea why.

Thanks again!

I tried multiple searches and couldn't get anything to come up. Here are some things to look at.

Have you deleted the products or unassigned them from pages?
Do you have a ShopSite generated page that is assigned to have a search form on it?
Do you have the option to Index products turned off on the Utilities > Publish screen?
Have you change the theme in the store, thereby overwriting the settings for the template on Preferences > Search Settings > Search Layout?
Are the pages the products assigned to set to be Indexed?

I'm getting the search to work fine. Search for the letter "e". You'll notice that the layout is a mess, which had initially been cleaned up by the template you made.

You had changed the product template used on the search results screen to the Invoice.sst template (Preferences > Search Settings > Search Layout> Product Template Override ). That template is designed for product that have variable price features and would not work well for a search template because none of the products are variable price. I changed it to the BasicProduct-search.sst which was specifically designed for search pages. Try the search now and see if that is better.

Hi Jim,
Thanks... yes, I had changed this because I had been looking for an override that gives an "Add Cart" button for each template. It looks as if em_BasicLayout.sst is actually what I need, but do you know if there is a way to eliminate the extra title (linked) below each result?
