are download delivery alternatives possible?

We sell a quite long audioguide via SS.
We're finding that more and more, people are trying to download to their smartphones directly.
But, it appears these customers aren't technical enough to know to tell us the details of their attempt...they just say "couldn't do it".
So, what we'd like to do is, when someone orders, put them through a multiple choice that would send them to one of several solutions.
[These solutions might be things like: get an email from MailBigFile or use DropBox or download multiple tracks instead of one big one or do NOT try because you're on a 1X connection or.....]
Is this possible in SS?

There is no built in option to do what you are asking. The two choices the merchant has are 1. to include the download link on the thank you screen or 2. to have the link included in the email receipt. This is configured on the Commerce Setup > Digital Downloads configuration screen.

I would recommend that you add some text to the Text for Downloading fields on that same screen to let the shopper know your recommended instructions.

A related question:
We currently zip the entire package into a single file.
An alternative is to create several, smaller zips.

Can one product in SS consist of multiple download files?

Only one download link is allowed per product.

If we wanted to warn people about the needed downloading conditions before they buy, where would we put that information?

If most of your products are downloads then you could put some information in the footer of each page. You could also create a special page with this information on it and then put a link in the product descriptions to that page (have it open in a new window). You could also put it on the shopping cart screen in the footer or any text field that displays on the page. I would also include it on the Thank You screen if you are having the download links on that screen. And definitely add it to the email receipt the shopper receives.

Some of these solutions could be done by just adding text to the global header/footer under Prefereces > Layout Settings and the Text at the top or Text at bottom fields on Commerce Setup > Order System > Shopping cart (or Checkout, Confirmation, Thankyou, Email)

It could also be done directly in the template if you are creating a custom template.
