Failing Paypal IPNs

Postby Everwilde » Tue Sep 25, 2012 9:12 am

Began getting Emails from customers that the orders that they placed through Shopsite and payed with PayPal were not coming through. Found that PayPal had moved servers, and that the latest version and patches for Shopsite needed to be installed. We did this, but the old orders were still not coming through. Found out that if PayPal gets a few failed IPNs, they disable the feature in PayPal. We had to go into Paypal > My Account > Profile > My Selling Tools > Instant Payment Notifications > Update and enable the IPNs again with the URL being https://www.mywebsite.com/cgi-bin/sc/thankyou.cgi. Then we had to go to Paypal > My Account > IPN History and view all of the orders that failed or were disabled. Then we
only selected the unsent/failed/disabled orders and resent them. If you resend one that was already sent, you could get duplicates. About 5-10 minutes later, all of the missing orders from the past week showed up, and we could ship them. I did not
see this procedure listed here, so thought I would share the good news.

"If you resend one that was already sent, you could get duplicates."

I'm not sure that you would get duplicate orders in ShopSite by doing this. Once the order is completed it ShopSite it can't be completed again, no matter how many duplicate IPNs come in.
