setup.exe appears to be crashing during upgrade to v11.sp2r3

I am on Windows Server 2003 / IIS6 upgrading from ShopSite v8 to v11sp2r3

    In IIS, I stopped to website
    Downloaded a fresh copy of setup.exe
    backed up my shopsite database.

Install seems to get thru -checking permissions and -downloading images and dll's, then shows a dialog about upgrading db, then seems to crash.

When I start the site in IIS, I get:
"System Upgrade In Progress
Due to a system upgrade currently in progress, this function is not available at this time.
Please try again in a few minutes.
(Use your web browser's back button to return to the previous screen) "

Any ideas?

Update:
My store is still down, and I could really use some help!

From some other posts, I looked for version files and did not find any. Same with the wwwinstall.aa file. The image_dir path is correct in my [storeid].aa file.
I looked for any log files, but could not find any.

Anybody with experience upgrading from v8 to v11?

Did you make backups before upgrading as recommended in the documentation? If so, I would recommend restoring the backups to get your store going again, then perhaps try upgrading in a couple of steps, for example try going to the newest v10 (something like v10 sp2 r2), then if that works try going from the v10 up to the latest v11 again.

Unfortunately, the store back end is inoperable. I get the 'System Upgrade in Process' message with any back end request.

I am not referring to restoring a database backup via the ShopSite backoffice, I am referring to restoring the backups of all of the ShopSite directories recommending in both the upgrade documentation, and I believe also in the setup.exe process itself. If you didn't make these backups, then I guess all you can try is remove any 'VERSION' or 'version' files from the 'ss', 'sc', and data directories, then run the v10 sp2 upgrade, and if that is successful, try the v11 upgrade.

And make backups next time before you upgrade. For example, if your ShopSite is installed in C:\Program Files\ShopSite\ (with 'ss', 'sc', 'data', and 'images' directories in there), just make a zip copy of that entire directory before running the upgrade.

The v10sp2 upgrade is giving me an 'Update Failed!' message, BUT the back office is now accessible, and the shopping cart appears to be working.

My ShopSite/ss/setup.html file is all good until the end, and I get:

If it is breaking when updating the customer registration database, I do not have customer registration enabled.

Are there updates missing?

The 'customer registration database' referred to in the upgrade is actually the main shopsite_db file. It was originally only used for Customer Registration, but not is used for pages, products, orders, associates, etc. So the Customer Registration feature doesn't have anything to do with this.

Does the database checkout OK when you use the Check Status function in Utilities -> Database?

Can you make a backup of the ShopSite directories now (so you can at least go back to its current operational state if necessary), and then try the 11 sp2 r3 upgrade again?

Still having problems updating to 11sp2r3

I was able to install v10.2.2, although with a 'Update failed!' message. The database and backup checked out OK and the cart and admin interface appear to be working. I did not install any of the patches.

When I tried to install v11, setup.exe crashes at 'Checking Store Locale Settings'. At that point the cart and admin give me the 'System Upgrade In Progress' message.

Restoring from zipped backup did not work, but deleting the 'Version' file and rerunning setup.exe v10.2.2 got the store back up and working. The patches have not been installed as yet.

Any ideas on how to update to v11.2.3? If I did a new install, is there a way to export all my settings and move my existing store? Is this advisable?

At this point, I've got a DEV site in v11.2.3 and a production site in v10.2.2 with no update solution. Please advise.

Any ideas on how to update to v11.2.3? If I did a new install, is there a way to export all my settings and move my existing store?

Is this a compatibility issue with Windows Server 2003 / IIS6?

It could be a compatibility issue but I don't think it would necessarily be.

I don't have a windows 2003 machine but on my Windows 2008 server I installed a 10.sp2 store set up a page and product and placed an order. I then ran the 11sp2r3 upgraded and it completed successfully. The store functions normally after the upgrade.

So I'm not sure what the problem on your store is. I recommend that you purchase a support incident from http://www.shopsite.com/support_pricing.html so the ShopSite support team can look into the issue. They would need remote access as an administrator to the server where you store is hosted.
