More search result formatting

Postby palex » Sat Sep 08, 2012 5:20 pm

Does anyone know how to

1) Have the product image display in the search results page next to the product name?
2) Not have the SKU be included in the search results page?

I'm not quite sure how to modify the search layout templates accordingly, if that is what needs to be done.

Thanks!

Whats the URL to your website? Typically the product image does show up if you have a product image assigned, and the SKU shows up if you have chosen to display the SKU for the product under Products > Edit Product Layout. To modify either of these you would need to add custom CSS to hide the SKU, or modify the search results template itself.

Thanks for the reply. I was able to remove the SKUs per your suggestion. Regarding the images though, I was hoping to have images appear in the search results along side the product information. It sounds as if you are referring to product pages. In my case, images are already correctly appearing on these pages. If the search result template needs to be modified to accomplish this, is anyone able to provide simple example code, as I am unsure how to do this (the syntax is foreign). The URL is palexbooks.com. Thanks again!

I looked at your website and it seems like you don't have images assigned to your products. For example, one of your products is, http://palexbooks.com/store/9780020080954.htm, which is actually a page, with a page banner graphic assigned, but no image for the product. You will want to change your images to be part of your products rather than part of a page by going to Products > Edit Product Info.

Thanks... that is progress now that the graphic has been assigned to the products and no longer to the pages. The issue now is image size / search result layout (do a search for "ing"). In the search page layout section, the "Used Resized Product Images" is checked. Is there another locations where these image sizes have to be unified? Thanks again.

You can choose which size image you would like to use for products in the search results pages. Go to Preferences > Search Settings > Search Layout, and check the checkbox to use the resized images, and select the size you want from the pull down menu (the last size is the smallest, the first is the largest).

That box is already checked. One can see that those two images in the search results are different sizes. This makes me think that there is another setting somewhere... what might be missing?

They are both using the same resized image, image size 1. My guess is that you are resizing your images based off percent rather than a specific pixel amount. Go to Images > Configure, and make sure that the resized images are configured for a max width and height in pixels, not percent. Save changes, then highlight all of your images and click "Create Resized Images" to re-create the resized images based off pixels.
