Rotating images

Postby Paula » Mon Aug 27, 2012 7:22 pm

Dynamic Drive has this little script you can put in your template that allows pictures to rotate; they have several for photo galleries, etc.

You have to put some code within the <head> and <body> but I don't see these tags on the pages. Is this something behind the scenes?

Thanks,
Paula

The <head> and <body> tags are only seen in the template directly (Merchandising > Custom Templates > Copy a ShopSite Template). Sometimes it is possible to test things out using the fields provided in the ShopSite backoffice to try to get the code to work without going into the template directly.

There is an article in our Kbase that deals with adding content to the <head>section of the page. See
http://support.shopsite.com/KBase/questions/1974/

It deals basically with META tags but can also be used to add css, javascript, etc.

You could probably use that method for testing but since the code would need to be on every page it would be easier/better to put your code to the page template, (or moreinfo page section of the product template) or in an include file that you include in the templates.

So basically I need to create a custom template for the page I want to add the rotating pictures on?

Yes. There are so many things that you need to change that a custom template to implement the rotating images would be the best thing to do.

In addition to the javascript that does the rotating you will also need to specify the multiple images that will be use during the rotation so you would need a way to pass those images to the page, (probably using custom fields) so you would need template tags to put those images in place. Another option would be to hard code the images in the template but that wouldn't make the template very flexible.
