Utility --> Export Store

Postby aamanager » Tue Aug 28, 2012 10:14 am

When I attempt to use the export store utility, the zip file gets created but the file size is 0 bytes. Any ideas?

What is the version of ShopSite your store is using. Click the ShopSite above the navbar in the backoffice and look in the footer between the two ShopSite logos for something like this "ShopSite® Pro 11 sp2 r3, StoreID: jimsp2" . Copy that and paste it to the forum so we can see more details..

Does that happen with just one of the export types or all of them?

I tried it in my test store and all of the options downloaded correctly. The only time I got a 0 byte file is when I tried to download templates and I didn't have any custom templates setup. I set some up and tried again and then I got a valid zip file.

Where is your store hosted? Have you checked with your host on the problem?

Our store is hosted at Bluehost. I will check with them.

I know I get an empty zip file when I attempt to export the main database, even though it tells me what the size of the backup file is ............ the compressed file ends up being 0 bytes. I do notice that the export message says "This file will be placed in a compressed zip file with the name "shopsite_db.export" and then downloaded to your local computer." but the file downloaded is named "Database-v11.2.3-aainthed-0001424789-2012-8-29" ............ not sure if this is important or not ........

FYI - My computer is running windows 7 Home Premium with Norton Internet Security, if that matters at all.

The database itself will be name "shopsite_db.export" instead of shopsite_db when it is placed in the zip file, so that is correct. The name of the zip file will be a long name like you mentioned including the type of data in the file (Database, Templates etc), ShopSite version (v11.2.3) Storeid (aainthed) serial number 0001424789) and date (2012-8-29) That way you can tell what the data is for, because restoring it to the wrong store or a different version would cause problems. The date allows you to keep multiple backups in case you need to go back a few version to get something that you might have deleted, changed etc. The zip file contains the entire path to where the data is located on the server so when you unzip it the desired file will be several directory levels deep, but to restore it, if necessary, you go to the initial part of the path and simply unzip the file. Since the database file is renamed you don't accidentally wipe it out when you unzip it. To make the backup active you rename the shopsite_db.export to shopsite_db.

I'll check and see if we have a test store on Bluehost and if we can recreate the problem there.

We have been able to duplicate the problem on a Bluehost server. We will assign an engineer to look at it. Not sure how long it will take to get a fix.

It's likely because when SimpleScripts installed/upgraded your ShopSite it did not set execute permissions on the 'zip' executable that creates the zip file archives of the data. You can try fixing this via your Bluehost control panel. Go to the File Manager in the Files section, in the File Manager find your ShopSite's 'ss' directory and go into it, scroll down to the bottom and you should see the file named 'zip', and in the 'Perms' column it probably has a number like 0644. Right-click on the 'zip' file and select Change Permissions, then in the subsequent pop-up check Read, Write, and Execute in the User column, Read and Execute in the Group column, and Read and Execute in the World column. The numbers in the 'Permission' row below should change to 7 5 5. Click Change Permissions, then when the File Manager screen reloads you should see 0755 in the Perms column for the 'zip' file. Now try the Export function in your ShopSite again.

I was going to check with Bluehost this morning when I got into the office, but .............. when I got into the office and checked my email, I found that you already solved the problem! Once I changed permissions all worked as it was supposed to. Many, many thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
