Images on navigation bar

Postby Paula » Tue Aug 28, 2012 8:54 pm

Is there a way to place an image (with URL) on the navigation bars? I'm not finding a way to do this under Preferences > Navigation. Does this involve creating a customized template?

Paula,

Yes this is something that would be more custom because you can't add any additional HTML in the navigation fields. It maybe something that you can do with CSS. What is the URL to your website and what is the URL to the image(s) you would like in the header?

It is http://www.owlsandfriends.com

Just to be clear, I would like to place an image (.jpg) in the left navigation bar; it would be a promotional box, ie. sale, special deal, etc. Thanks.

It looks like you are using the Multi-Use-Page-Left.sst page template. With this template, the only additional image that is placed on the left is the payment logos image. However, it looks like you have added the payment logos image into your footer, and are not using the field provided in ShopSite. If this is the case, you can use the payment logos image field in ShopSite to display an additional image on the left. It will show up under the left navigation bar.

If you need more flexibility than this, you will need to modify the template. Some themes have many additional image fields on the left (each theme puts additional text and image fields in different locations), but there is only one in the theme you are currently using. If you do need to modify the template, it is fairly simple.
1. You would go to Merchandising > Custom Templates > Includes > Copy ShopSite Include, and you would make a copy of the Multi-Use-Page-Sidebar.sst include file. Then, make another copy of that copy and rename it EXACTLY the same name as the original (double check my name above, it should be something close to Multi-Use-Page-Sidebar.sst, if not exactly Multi-Use-Page-Sidebar.sst).
2. Now, you can make changes to the Multi-Use-Page-Sidebar.sst include file. I would suggest adding your own HTML for the additional images or links just above or just below the [-- IF STORE.PaymentLogos --]<p id="payment_logos">[-- STORE.PaymentLogos --]</p>[-- END_IF --] in that include file.
3. Once you have added your code, you can go to Pages > Preview, and make sure it looks the way you want. If it does, go to Utilities > Publish > Regenerate, to recreate all of your store pages with this newly modified include file.

Thank you...in the case of the first option, where do I find the payment logo image field? I don't see it under navigation.

Payment Logos option is under Preferences > Layout Info.

I found the place to add the image, but it doesn't seem to offer a way to add a URL link. Can this be done?

Not with the payment logo field. You will likely need to use my second option above, by modifying the include file itself.
