Coupon issue

Postby Ivan Santos » Wed Apr 25, 2012 1:27 pm

Hello, this is my first post. I've been trying to create a discount coupon on my shop site, as follows: it would be the same coupon for all new customers, say WELCOME2012, but each customer can only use it one time. So far I could not find the way to create it. I just created a coupon, disactivating the one time use option, so that it can be used for everyone. Now I will have to check everytime we have an order to see if that person already used the coupon. I would appreciate any help, thank you very much.

The only way to do this would be to require customers to register to place an order in your store. Have registration assign all new customers to the default group and assign the coupon to that default group. That way when they place an order the coupon will automatically be added to their cart. Once you get the order you will need to move them to a group that does not have that coupon assigned so the next time they place an order the coupon will not be added to their cart, but you could add a different one if you want by assigning it to the group that you put the customers in after their initial order.

Note that you should not give out the coupon code or url otherwise anyone can use the coupon and could use it multiple times. By having the coupon added by the registration group the code is not revealed to the shopper so they can't just use it again by copying it.

Well, I don't know ir replying to this old post will work, maybe I should have created a new post. But since it's related to the same problem, well,
I am going to try to explain.
FInally I created a coupon assigned for the default group of customers who register with us, and then I move every customer to a different group
so that they can not enjoy the discount more than one time. Then I realized that when the coupon is appplied automatically on first orders from registered
customers, it shows up its name on the shop cart. So, basically, everybody can see the coupon's name and use it again, even when they don't log in.
Is there any way not to show the coupon's name and make it invisible, but still apply it on the order?
Thank you very much

Ivan,

The coupon name can be different than the alternate code. So long as that is the case, then even if they can see the coupon name, they would not be able to activate it as they would not know the numeric code or alternate code. The coupon code field only accepts either the numeric code ShopSite generates or the alternate code you create. It does not accept the coupon name.
