Flat shipping rate from a minimum order amount

Postby Ivan Santos » Thu May 24, 2012 6:50 am

Hello, is it possible to apply a flat shipping rate from a minimun $25 order and have the standard courier's rates for orders less than this amount?
Thank you very much

What you could do is enable Shipping By Currency within ShopSite. Set a high shipping rate fro orders from $0 to $24.99. Only setup one shipping option (such as "ground"...but I would suggest changing the text to something like "Standard Shipping"). Then for orders from $25.00 - $100,000, enter the flat rate shipping option that you want (the lower price). Next, enable the real-time shipping options that you want. Last, under Commerce Setup > Shipping, for the "Display Shipping Options As" I would select "radio." For "Shipping Option Sort Order" select "Ascending By Cost." For "Shipping Service Display Order" select "All Service Options Together."

Hello again, what do you mean by real-time shipping? is it the courier's standard rates?

UPS, USPS, FedEx are the real-time shippers, because they return exact rates at the time the shopping cart is being accessed by the shopper.

Jim, wouldn't it make more sense to apply the real-time shipping on small orders up to $25 and then the flat shipping rate from that amount, since we want to reward customers who purchase big order? if so, how could we do it? Thanks

You could configure one of the ShopSite shipping options (shipping by price for example) to be lower if the value of the order is more than 25 and that at would work fine, however the real-time rates will always display. There is no way to not display the real-time rates if the order is more than 25.00 .

mmm, let me summarize it so that it's easier to understand:

- orders from $15-$25: real-time shipping
- orders from $25: flat rate

how can I configure ths shipping options for this?
thank you very much

See the post by Lauren in reply to your original post.
The simple answer is that there is no easy way to do it since all shipping options will display in the shopping cart. You cannot display rates for different shipping options based on the cart total.

In your scenario you could configure the ShopSite shipping method Shipping by Currency and set the shipping cost to an amount that would exceed any expected real-time rate for products that total 25.00. and for values greater than 25.00 set the shipping cost to 0. You would also set up a real-time shipping option like UPS. When a shopper adds items to the cart the shipping options will be displayed (radio button method would be better in this situation). Each available shipping option will be displayed with its price for the items in the cart. So if the cart total were 18.99 then they would see
Our Special Shipping: 20.00
UPS Ground 7.99
UPS Next Day Air 14.99
...

They would probably select the lowest price option 7.99.

If the total were 25.01 they would see
Our Special Shipping 0.00
UPS Ground 7.99
UPS Next Day Air 14.99
...
Again they would probably select the the lowest price option 0.00.
You can configure the shipping options so they are listed by price, You can also select the first shipping option as default. So combining both of those options you could have the lowest price shipping option the default value. So in the above cases the order would be switched so for the 18.99 cart total the options would be.
UPS Ground 7.99
UPS Next Day Air 14.99
Our Special Shipping: 20.00
...

and the over 25.00 would be listed as
Our Special Shipping 0.00
UPS Ground 7.99
UPS Next Day Air 14.99
...
So the shopper would automatically get the lowest price option by default but they could use a different method if they decided to.

Hi, Jim, I tried to set the Shipping by Currency as you said, but are unable to set the real-time shipping at the same time so that I can have the 2 options displayed. Thanks

What version of ShopSite do you have and what product level, Pro, Manager or starter? You can find this by clicking on the ShopSite tab in the navigation area and then looking in the footer.

I don't know any version that doesn't allow both a ShopSite Shipping option and the real time ones, unless you have a Starter level store. Did you try checking the box infront of the real time shipping options after you have confgured it?
