We realized that we can now accept AmEx on our shop. I went into Commerce --> Payment --> Credit Cards and checked off AmEx. I then published the store. However, when I go to the billing section to make sure it shows up as an option, it does not.

What do I need to do differently?

Did you Save Changes on the backoffice screen after you checked the American Express checkbox?
Also make sure that you are actually setup with your credit card processing company to take American Express, it generally costs extra or requires special setup to be able to accept AMEX.

Check on the Shopping cart screen and see if it is listed in the payment section there.

I saved the changes after I checked the AmEx box. We are authorized via iPayment to take AmEx, so what other special set-up do we need to do?

There shouldn't be anything else to do. However, you select the payment type on the shopping cart screen not the billing screen. To test that it is working if you have something in your shopping cart already empty the cart and start by adding a new product, Then see if AMEX is in the list of payment options on the first shopping cart screen.

Hi,

I'm confused now -- in my Shopsite store, because we only accept credit cards for valid payment, you don't enter any billing information whatsoever until the billing page. The only thing to enter on the shopping cart page is the zip code to figure tax and shipping or the gift certificate/coupon fields.

Still when I go to the billing page, AmEx does not appear in the dropdown list. Please advise.

The domain is shop.goodiemags.com/index.html (or goodiemags.com).

If you only offer one type of payment, which it looks like you do, then there is no selection box on the shopping cart screen and you select the Credit Card type on the billing/shipping address screen. If you offered more than one, say Credit cards and Paypal then there would be a selection box on the cart screen so the checkout process could be directed to the appropriate forms.

Where is you site hosted? It looks like it may be at Lexiconn. If that is the case contact them for assistance as they will have access to the server to see what is going on.
