Size Options Drop-Down Menu

Postby ajhauser » Tue Dec 27, 2011 1:00 pm

I have a client who would like to add a product "My bag of Widgets" - which comes in 10, 20 and 50 lb. bags. Is there a way to add this item in ShopSite and include a drop down menu (on the More Info page) that lets the user select what size they would like? The price would change depending on which size was selected.

This way the site does not need to list the items as 3 separate results in the search results or anywhere else.

I'm completely new to this. Sorry if it's a dumb question! :/

The ShopSite Manager and Pro packages both have the capability of using product ordering options (pull-down menus) which can change the price of the product based on the option selected. Creating the ordering options themselves is done by going to Products > Edit Product Info (note you must be in advanced editing). Then scroll down to the ordering options section on that page.

Now, by default ShopSite publishes that pull-down menu to both the main category page and the more information page if you check the display ordering options under Edit Product Layout. If you want the pull-down menu to only be displayed on the product more info page you will need to edit the product template (any questions on that go to the custom template questions forum).

We have an example of product pull-down menus changing the product price at the URL below:

A video tutorial and links to the help on product ordering options can be found here:

Oh wait - this is great for color options, but we have different lb bags - and the different weight will change the shipping. What is the best way to go about this?

If you do need to also have a different weight assigned to each product then you would either need to use the subproduct feature of the Manager (where each bag is its own product but is listed under the parent product as a pull-down menu, checkboxes, or radio buttons) or the Advanced Ordering Options of the ShopSite Pro (added version 10 sp2). This additional feature will allow you to modify the pricing and weight for each option as well as specify inventory options, SKU numbers, and images for each option. If you will be calculating your shipping based on weight, use the "Weight Modifier" field.

There is an image in one of the ShopSite newsletters which shows the Advanced Ordering Options fields CarolynU mentioned. Checkout the URL below:
