"store" folder standard?

Postby ajhauser » Wed Dec 07, 2011 1:24 am

So I have ShopSite Pro installed through ViaVerio (my host), and all of my page files are located in a "store" folder. So my homapage is now "http://brotherscountrysupply.com/store/index.html", instead of "http://brotherscountrysupply.com".

Is this standard practice for ShopSite, or a result of the install procedure(s)?
Any idea how I could at least make "http://brotherscountrysupply.com" display the homepage - or should I just set up a static page or some kind of redirect?

Thanks very much for any and all help!!!

The /store is not required by ShopSite, but was added by your hosting company. This is frequently done so that an existing site won't be overwritten by pages published from ShopSite. The authorization file for the store will have the complete url to where the store pages are located. So if you want to change the location so that it does not include the /store, you would need to have a new authorization key generated without the /store. You would then move some directories around so they are in the correct location and edit config files that contain the /store in paths or URLs. If you havent done much work on the site it might be worth doing, however if you have already setup the site it may be easier to create a redirect page at the root of the domain to the /store directory.

Thank you very much Jim - that is an extremely helpful reply. Realistically, I think I'll opt for the redirect - although one perk to this setup is that I have the ability to tweak the site without any early visitors... until Google starts showing it in the results that is. Hmmm... I wonder how I could keep the random visitors out until we were ready for them. Any ideas?

No, there is no way to do it through ShopSite. You have to add .htaccess and .htpasswd files in the directory and that has to be done on the server itself. (Linux,FreeBSD, Solaris) I'm not sure how you would do it if you have a Windows server, but there is probably a way there too.

Thanks for the compliment.

Ok cool, I will check it out - the site is on a LAMP stack so should be fairly common I would think...
