Free Shipping Question

Postby GiftSpecialists » Wed Nov 30, 2011 7:47 am

We currently use the "weight Based" shipping configuration.

What I would like to do is offer free ground shipping on certian products (not all), but also let the customer have the option of upgrading to 2-day, etc. if they wish.

How is the best way to accomplish this?

Rick,

ShopSite's built-in free shipping applies to all products, and can only be limited by a total dollar amount in the cart. You could use a free shipping coupon that is limited to certain products, but this would require the customer to enter the code.

You could set your "free shipping" items to be a lower weight, and set the weight range for $0 ground shipping to encompass this range, while charging the normal amounts for other shipping options.

A shipping API would be your best bet to accomplish your goal, as you could then set it to only work for specific products.

Thanks Rob.

Do you know where I can get a good shipping API that will work for this?

Rick,

We offer one, but it's only for hosted clients:

You would likely have to hire a perl/php programmer/developer to create a shipping API if you don't have the expertise in-house. You could look at:

Unfortunately, our modules are only for hosted clients due to the complexity of their installation and server side requirements.

We use the lexiconn Custom Shipping Application to do this. You can set it up to offer free shipping on certain products and even to certain locations. For instance we offer free shipping on certain products to international customers. We only use this module to set up the free shipping it does not calculate the shipping costs for other options.
