Customer Receipt Email Error

Postby Swine » Wed Oct 26, 2011 9:01 am

Have gotten this error a couple of times now.

The customer receipt was not able to be delivered.Sendmail returned an error: Unknown error: 28416
A problem occurred sending an order notification to the merchant.Sendmail returned an error: Unknown error: 28416Unable to send order notification to the merchant.Sendmail returned an error: Unknown error: 28416

What exactly does this mean? Was the customer's email bad? Did the order go through? Is this a problem on our end?

Please help.

This is probably something you will want to ask your hosting provider. ShopSite hands off the information for emails to be sent to the servers sendmail client. If there is a problem, your hosting provider should be able to find out since they have access to the server that hosts your ShopSite store.

Thanks for the response. So this is an issue with the sending of the receipt email to the customer?

Yes, it indicates the the email could not be sent to the shopper, not that it was not received by the shopper or that it bounced because they had a full email box or something similar. It is an indication that there may be a problem with the mail system which is configured in the store. ShopSite just passes the email to the email service you have configured (sendmail on most sytems, smtp on windows) and it is the mail server that actually does the sending.

The server admin for your store should be able to look at the server logs and get an idea what happened. It could have been just a one time thing but often it is a definite problem.
