Turn off cart temporarily

Postby Metolius Climbing » Thu Oct 20, 2011 10:24 am

So the people who over see credit cards processing for our company are changing companies of whom process the cards. I guess they have done this a couple times and have run into problems if a card was preauthorized but not actually billed during the switch. Anyhow they want to know if I can turn off the shopping cart for an hour or so while they make the switch so no orders will be lost in transition. Is there a simple way to keep our website online and disable the entire shopping cart? FYI we don't use the shopping cart to build the web pages I only have a buy button that makes the link.

There are a couple of ways to disable the cart but you will need access to the server to do it.
you could rename order.cgi to something else Then any requests to that cgi would fail
you could create a new order.cgi that puts up a message saying the store is temporarily disabled.
you could rename the <storeid>.auth file which will result in failed requests since the store would not be able to run properly.

If you use one of the above make sure you have a backup copy of what you change so you can restore it later. The <storeid>.auth file is actually a symlink to the actual file in the data directory so if you remove or change the link make sure you know what it was so you can recreate the symlink.

I looked around and didn't see the order.cgi file, is it in the cgi-bin?

But I was thinking I could just goto the Payment Setup and uncheck which credit cards we except so no transactions could go through and place a note on the shopping cart explaining is was temporarily under maintenance.

Or switch the Credit Card Processing to Manual(offline), maybe???

Any thoughts on that method?

That would work too. If you switch to Manual off line, orders will still be able to be placed and you will have to go to the merchant terminal of your payment gateway and enter the information for the payment that way. Note that you will probably need the credit card number, expiration date, cvv2 value and address to process the orders that way. ShopSite will only display the cvv2 value once so if you view the order you need to make note of that value because the next time you view the order it will have been removed.
