pm messages stuck in outbox

I was sending private messages to a user and now for some reason the ones that I send are staying stuck in the outbox. I've erased previous messages and now only have 8% used in the inbox but they keep building up in the outbox instead of being sent without me changing any settings. I really need to send this pm out...any ideas?

Private messages stay in the outbox until the person they are sent to opens them. It is not like email where it is sent to some outside servers, they stay on the forum server. Once the recipient opens the message it will be removed from your outbox.
