Password protected shopsite

I am working with a client that would like to insulate the shopping section
from retail users as this will just be designed to allow the middle level
suppliers to order from. Can anyone point me to info on how to implement
this or offer me suggestions. I am an experienced programmer but new to Shop
Site.

My site host does allow password protection on designated folders if that
helps.

Hi Gary,

Let me get this right.
What you want to do is have shopping capability for a retail side and a
wholesale side.
You do not want the retail customers to see the pages and prices or be able to
click to order unless authorized. Is that right?

Well, using your ISP's basic password protection would be the easiest
thing to do, if you don't mind either sharing a password among all
suppliers, or adding a new password for each authorized supplier.

The other possibility would be to use custom page and product templates
that cause ShopSite generate PHP scripts instead of HTML documents. You
could write a login mechanism in PHP, and have each store page include
the necessary PHP code to verify that the user is properly logged in.
This is more complicated, though.
