RE: Payment Billing Error

Postby miriamcb » Fri Sep 30, 2011 10:37 am

Hi,

I have a customer who is trying to use our site to purchase. When she submits her order, she receives this error:

Required Payment Processing Parameter Missing. Client App: Fatal Error.

I've checked with Authorize.net and the payment is never being sent over to them at all, so it seems that it's completely on the Shopsite side. I'm running version 10 of ShopSite.

How does this get fixed?

Thanks,

Miriam

Required payment processing parameter missing
<!-- ClientApp: fatalerror -->

This is exactly what comes up.

It seems that it's working fine with MasterCard but not with Visa. We get the error message with Visa. Any fixes?

This message is coming from the payment gateway
Required Payment Processing Parameter Missing. Client App: Fatal Error.

Go to Commerce Setup > Payment Setup and in the section for you Payment processor click the Configure button. Then check the box the Display Error Details and save changes.

Try placing another order and see if you get additional details from the Gateway. Then contact the gateway to find out what the issue is.

If Master Card works but not Visa, maybe you have not enabled that credit card on the payment gateway side.

Another thing to check is that you have the proper address fields in the billing address section and that the ones that are required by the gateway are marked as "required" (Commerce setup > Order System > Checkout.) If you have a field such as street that is required by the gateway but you don't have it marked as required the shopper might leave it blank so nothing would be submitted to the gateway and that type of error would be displayed.

Also if you have an older version of ShopSite and you are just using a text field for the State or Country there could be a problem because the gateway may require a special code instead of the state or county name.

I was able to get it to work at the business (but obviously the customer still hit this error).

I've checked with the payment gateway and I had the Display Detail Errors on when that message came up. Those were the only details that came up. Authorize.net indicated that it was never sent over to them for payment at all.

I am not using a text field (drop down for state and country).

Is it possible that an old version of IE and Shopsite don't get along?

With old versions of IE, or any browser, anything is (im)possible. ;-)

What version of ShopSite are you using? There have been fixes for some reported issues similar to this in recent versions so if you aren't using the latest released version (ShopSite 11) you might consider upgrading. I couldn't find references to fixes for Authorize.net but there were some to Payflo Pro and Linkpoint, so fixes for them may have fixed it for Authorize.net too.

What is the url to your store? I could try it and see if it occurs for me.

Hi Jim,

Thanks. I'm using shopsite pro v10 via FatCow and they said they have no plans of upgrading (which is frustrating).

The store URL is http://www.goodiemags.com/store/shopsite/sc/order.cgi?storeid=*22b7342a7eac8b705f863004d07795dd4f0d2a&function=show.

The domain then obviously is www.goodiemags.com.

Thanks.

Also, this has been part of the issue, that maybe you can help me with.

I tried the customer's card on site here and received the same error she did. I then tried another card and received the same message. I've been fighting with cookies, etc. so I thought to clear the cookies and my browsing history and then I was able to get a card to go through. This has happened with when I edit things in the shopping cart as well (new buttons don't show up because the page is saved in the cache, until I clear my browsing history).

Is there anyway to prevent this from happening?

I've been notified via Fatcow that they use varnish caching technology and they've sent me the edits if I want to disable the caching. Are there specific Shopsite files I should be editing in my access files that can fix this as well?

Thanks!

I tried a number of different combinations of leaving data out of the forms and could not reproduce the error. I uses a test VISA credit card number with 4111 1111 1111 1111 and cvv2 of 111. I got the expected error from the gateway that there is a problem with the credit card number or cvv value. So the correct inforation was sent to Authorize.net inorder to get this type of message back.

The only files in a ShopSite store that are editable by the merchant are the templates. All cgis are compiled binaries and there is no way to edit them.

It may be a caching issue or perhaps a firewall issue that isn't letting some data be passed to the gateway. But there is no way of knowing for sure what is causing it. I can assure you that this is not something that is happening in others stores since Authorize.net is used by more ShopSite stores than any of the other pure gateway payment methods. (Paypal and Google probably have more but they function entirely different.)
