Won't add to cart for some products some times

Postby powerstream » Mon Sep 26, 2011 8:56 am

We have had this problem in version 10, so upgraded to version 11 and still have trouble.

Occasionally one of our salesmen or a customer will click on "add to cart" for a particular product, the
screen goes to the shopping cart and the product will not appear, even for repeated attempts. Other
products work fine, and other computers work fine but this one product refuses to add on that
computer. Our computers are running firefox with windows 7. One of our salesman has not been
able to add a certain product to the cart for weeks, yet everyone else is able to do so on their
computers. We get 30-50 shopsite orders a day, but also get calls from customers that can't add
a product to their carts, and it is not usually the same product.

We use "order anywhere" exclusively.

Any ideas?

Not without a link to the site where the problem product is found.

One of the products that we have trouble with (sometimes) is

http://www.powerstream.com/double-C.htm

A customer just reported that he had trouble using Windows 7 and Explorer.

I was able to add both products to the cart once using FireFox on a Linux desktop but then it started failing for me.

The page is using frames and the rewrite for the frame is messing the urls up. The add to cart url should be going to ...order.cgi but after it starts failing, clicking the add-to-cart button just goes to http://www.powerstream.com/double-C.htm but with the empty cart showing. So something in the frame code is not allowing the href to go to the proper order.cgi url.

I tried to run the page through two different html validation services and neither one could validate it. Both complain that they can't fine the DOCTYPE <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2 FINAL//EN" "hmpro6.dtd">

I see that this is suppose to be html 3.2 which is ancient in computer time so I would suggest updating the page to the 4.0 version of html. The newer browsers and operating systems may not work with that old of a version of html.

Once the page can pass (or at lease attempt to pass) the html validation that will probably give you a better idea of what is actually happening on the page.

Frames can be problematic for other reasons as well. You might consider a site re-write. Here is a good tutorial on using CSS instead of frames.

You might also consider php or some other options. Frames went out in the 1990s.
