I can't seem to get the site to work -no index

Postby virginiachocolate » Thu Sep 01, 2011 12:30 pm

Okay I built a new site using the Awesome Orange Template, now I am trying to load this up to my domain address. On the first page of the website I put index.html as the Title and click save then publish site. When I click My Store I get this:

Directory has no index file.
Browsing this site or directory without an index file is prohibited.
If you are the site's webmaster, you can remedy this problem by creating a default HTML page with one of the following names:

index.html
index.htm
default.htm
Default.htm
home.html
Home.chtml
NOTE: Filenames are case sensitive, i.e., Home.html is not the same as home.html

I called my host (IPage) and they said that this site is not really a website it is an add on. what do I need to do to get this to work?????

In your above description, you mention placing index.html in the title field. If that is the case, then you will want to put index.html in the file name field under Advanced Info (Pages > Edit Page Content) then save your changes and publish. The title field is what shows up at the top of the browser or in the tab.

I forgot to mention that I already put index.html in the advanced info area, it did not work.

If you are willing, it generally helps if we know the domain name of your website and what URL ShopSite is hosted under. If you do not wish to post it to the forum, you can send it in a Private Message.

IPage typically installs ShopSite stores to a subdomain rather than to your actual domain. The format for your store URL should be your IPage username.ipage.com/store. So if your account with IPage is under the name virginiachocolate, then the URL would be virginiachocolate.ipage.com/store. Try that and see if you can get to your ShopSite created pages.
