No msg from Shop Site Orders

Postby oemtech » Sat Aug 13, 2011 6:30 am

I am using the basic Shop Site V10sp1 from my hosting site (Startlogic). I am using the "Order Anywhere" function using PayPal. everything works except I do not get a message from Shop Site for the order nor do I see and order in Shop Site. I do get a message from PayPal saying the payment is complete. I also get the following msg when I sign into Shop Site.

"There appear to be 2 new orders in your store that have not yet been processed by ShopSite. You must click on the "Manage My Store" button (above) and then process these orders through the "Orders" screen before you will be able to modify your installation settings."

When I go to Order's there are no order's. But, if I check the Reports I see the $$ values for the 2 order's.

I have opened support ticket with Startlogic but they have not be able to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

The basic PayPal payment method relies on IPNs (instant payment notifications) which PayPal sends back to ShopSite when an order is completed on the PayPal side. If there is problem with sending the IPN, either on the PayPal side or on the server where your ShopSite store is hosted, then ShopSite will not know that the order has been completed.

IPNs are sent when the money is actually transferred to your PayPal account, so if the shopper paid by check or bank draft there may be a delay of 7-10 days for the check to clear the shoppers bank before the money can be placed in your account. There are also settings on your PayPal account that may prevent the IPN from being sent until you actually accept the order on the PayPal side. (If your account is setup that way you should change it to automatically accept the order)

IPNs are sent several times if a response is not received from the store, the time between attempts to send the IPNs increases with each failed attempt so the longer it takes to receive a response the longer the time will be for the next attempt.

So the first thing to try would be go to your PayPal account and see if you have it configured to not send an IPN until you approve the purchase. Also look at the payment method the shopper used for payment. If the shopper used a check then it may be up to 10 days before the order will be finalized on PayPal and the IPN is sent.

As a side note, I have received a number of email messages from PayPal lately dealing with issues they are having in some areas of the world. You might check on the PayPal site to see if there is a problem for where you are located.

The Starlogic support is pointing the finger at PayPal.... and they also suggest that I use PayPal Express. This all well and good except it requires the Customer to have a PayPal account. In many cases the customer will cancel the order first before setting up a PayPal account.
This is the URL that PayPal is sending the IPN's too... Does this look correct?

No that would not be a correct url since it does not include the storeID for the store the order was placed in. Startlogic could have hundreds of ShopSite store that all use the same set of cgis so they would need to have something that would indicate which specific store the order was from. It could be something like this: https://shopsite.startlogic.com/ss10.0/sc/thankyou.cgi?storeID=<your encrypted storeid>
or maybe like this https://<your startlogic account name>.shopsite.startlogic.com/ss10.0/sc/thankyou.cgi Or it could be some other configuration.
