Any way to create navigation in v10 r7.4

Postby AntonioT » Sat Aug 06, 2011 5:27 pm

I'm looking to create a few non cart pages like about us, contact, and a few others. Any way of doing this in my current version?

Also, I've asked my hosting company about upgrading to sp2 or v11 and they give no eta if that will happen or when. Is it possible at all for me upgrade without them?
It would be nice to have global navigation and advanced ordering options for different weights of products for accurate shipping quotes.

Thanks,
Anotnio

One simple way would be to create a custom page template with a very basic framework, and for the body use Text Field 1, which you can edit using the built-in html editor in the backoffice to populate the page:

Code: Select all
[--DEFINE LINK_TO_PAGE--]
<html>
<head>
  <title>[-- PAGE.Title --]</title>
</head>
<body>
[-- PAGE.Text1 --]
</body>
</html>
[-- END_DEFINE PAGE --]

Hopefully your host upgrades to the latest version, which does have many great features. If you have your own install of ShopSite, it may be possible, but if your host uses a shared install (i.e. the cart page does not stay on your domain) then you'll have to wait for them.

I probably should have mentioned I know nothing about html coding. :0

I don't know about the back end details of what my host has, but when I was using starter, only the index page was on my site then every other page was on host.shopsite.whatever.com
Now I'm using pro and all the pages stay under my domain with ssl cert. Does that mean I can upgrade without my host?

I was fiddling around and what seems to have worked for navigation was to create the pages I was looking for, then arranging them in specific order with all pages linking to all pages. (Does that make sense?)
Looks like a left nav bar to me now. LOL

In ShopSite Starter, I would suggest adding the links to the header using the HTML editor. FIrst, make sure you have the HTML Editor enabled (Utilities > HTML Editor). If it is enabled, you can go to Preferences > Page Header/Footer (or Layout Settings in newer versions), and click on the [Editor] link above the text field. You can then use the editor to add a logo, and links, and align them how you want. ShopSite's HTML Editor will create the HTML for you.

For upgrading, you would not be able to upgrade without going through your hosting provider who you are leasing your ShopSite through. However, even when upgrading to version 10 sp2 or 11, the navigation feature is only available in ShopSite Manager and ShopSite Pro, and the Advanced Ordering Option feature is only available in ShopSite Pro.
