mediam.cgi is the image processing script in the backoffice. It seems that whatever you were doing in the backofice with regards to images (maybe resizing a large number of images, or images that are very large) was causing an issue.

Two ideas I have:

1. Make sure your ShopSite store is running the latest version. This will rule out any old bugs/issues.

2. If you are working with either a large number of images or very large image sizes, try only adjusting a few at a time to avoid any issues.

ShopSite runs quite fast and uses very little resources, but if the server your account is on is already close to being overloaded (loads of 10+ are quite high) and you're doing a lot of work in the backoffice, it could be a problem.

Rob,
That's exactly what I was doing. I was trying to get thumbnails from over 8000 images at the same time. Some of the images are over 1 MB.
Also, I pounded the key when it wouldn't start up.
The system is always very slow. I had found if I pounded a key I got it going quicker. I bet I'm not alone. I have to take a walk sometimes waiting for something to happen. I'll pass this on to Hostgator and try to get out of jail. I've always gone by the rule, if I'm not stopped from doing something, then it must be alright. I guess that's not true in this environment.
May thanks

Thanks again for your help, Rob. I got out of gaol. Below is hostgator's reply.
I can get rid of Twitter and I'll get rid of all the big image files I don't need. But what about those other issues?

it appears that the problem with the loading is most likely related to the fact that images on the website are scaled down and this is done via the browser which in terms slows down the entire website.

There are 44 images that are scaled down.

I also noticed that none of the objects on your website have cache headers which means the browser will not cache any content and they must be requested from the server each time a new page is opened:

There are 51 static components without a far-future expiration date.

It appears that you have a twitter plugin or widget which can also cause the website to be loading slower if the twitter service is experiencing issues this will affect your website as well:

If you like you can view the full report here:

Unfortunately we are not relate or in any way associated with Shopsite and all accounts must comply with our terms of service, in case an account is using too much resources we are forced to suspend it in order to keep the server up and running, I do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused for your website.

That report is just referring to speed optimizations for your website. They are referring to cache control headers, which can be set in a .htaccess file in your root directory.

We have a blog post that talks about this in more detail at:
