Shopsite so slow???

Postby lonepine » Fri Jul 15, 2011 7:38 am

I have over 7000 products and 141 pages on my store at www.lonepinestore.com using Shopsite Pro 10.2.
1st Question
Making even small changes is painful. When I press SAVE, a little ring whirls around up on top. Sometimes it goes through quickly. Other times I have to wait about 30 seconds and hit the SAVE again to kick it into gear. PUBLISH always takes over a minute to publish even a small change.
1st question: Is this usual??

2nd Question: The data structure on my host's server, looks peculiar but my host's techs tell me that Shopsite works that way.

The root is public_html/lonepinestore.com which is my main website.
Under this are about 8 folders including cgi-bin and lonepinestore.com again. If the root is lonepinestore.com, what is it doing inside itself.
Now it gets even weirder, inside this second lonepinestore.com are the same 8 folders again including cgi-bin and lonepinestore.com
And then there is another lonepinestore.com and it appears to repeat forever.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

In answer to your first question: the variations in the time it takes for changes to be saved is dependent on how much traffic the server is experiencing at the time. The time of the publish will also vary based on how many changes are being made. When you click the blue publish tab in ShopSite, your store only publishes products and pages which have had new changes made to them. That number differs every time; however, if you go to Utilities > Publish > Regenerate, then ShopSite publishes all of your pages and products in your database. The regeneration will take longer than a regular publish. Especially as your store grows.

I do not have the knowledge needed to answer the second question, but I will speak with the upper level technicians about it.

Ok, so the short answer is that what you are describing sounds like a recursive symbolic link and is not a normal part of the ShopSite setup. Please check your Private Messages for more information.

Sounds like the server your site is on is somewhat overloaded. The back office screens should take no longer than 2-3 seconds to update when pressing Save. 7,000 products is not too many. A full regen may take a minute to complete, but a publish of a few pages/products should take seconds at most.

We have shared hosting clients with 15,000 products in ShopSite that always see fast loading back office screens, and publishes that complete quickly. ShopSite is quite efficient, but if your web host puts a lot of accounts on a server, or does not lightly load / balance these servers, then ShopSite will run slow due to the server itself.

Nicole,
Thanks for reorganizing my host setup. The system works great now.

Robm,
Thanks for that reassuring post about Shopsite. You were right.
