Bulk "upload" of products to delete

Postby wcnardone » Tue Jul 05, 2011 9:00 am

We are currently in transition from our custom storefront to a ShopSite storefront. We have a system that already maintains our inventory and will continue to do so for some time to come. We capture changes each night and then upload new/updated products vial the XML upload without a problem. We'd like the ability to also "upload" a file of existing product SKUs to be deleted from the database. Currently, it looks like this capability does not exist.

We could look at something like changing the inventory count to 0 so it couldn't be ordered, but we'd rather not have the item in the database at all, so it is not included in searches, etc.

Although it is not currently possible to delete product directly by an upload, you could upload a value, like "DELETE ME", in a specific field such as one of the product extra fields. Then in the back office use the product search and search for that text in the field you uploaded the data to. Select the found products click the Delete button to remove the products. Then Publish the store.

Jim,
Thanks, but we are really looking for a way to handle the deletes without human intervention. Right now we need to capture the deletes in an email and then rely on the recipient to process. We don't have that many deletes, so having someone go in and check every day for the tagged records is not practical. Seems to me that this is something they should provide to handle customers that have existing inventory management and are just looking to feed shopsite on a regular basis.
