A Couple of Suggestions

I Love Shopsite, really. After installing XBIT Hacks etc, I have really
increased the flexibility. I just a few suggestions (A wish list) for the
next release(s) that would answer a few problems I am having with the
current SS:

1. Ability to publish to 1 product to different templates based upon the
page the product is published to
I have a different main page template than the rest of my site.. I currently
have to enter a product in the database more than once to have a different
look. Also, for the more info pages, a created a "back to category name"
link, but if the product appears on more than one page, SS picks one of the
categories. In other words, if I have a Christmas Music CD, that appears in
my Music category and my Christmas category, if you click the more info from
the Christmas listing it will say "Back to Music" instead of Back To
Christmas.

2. Coupon Code Alignment
The enter coupon code alignment in checkout should be fixed. It appears to
be related to the alignment of the cart contents above. The problem is, if
the name of the product is too long, the coupon form field and the "If you
have a coupon please enter it blah blah" can be on opposite sides of the
page.

3. Category Management
the ability to have better drill downs. If a store sells general
merchandise, the categories can be overwhelming. It would be nice to have
categories and subcategories that don't require an external harvester.

4. Coupons for Free Shipping

5. Options for a product reduce products inventory
I'm sure this has been mentioned but if you have two colors of a thermos, it
would be nice for the customer to select "Thermos" get a color choice, and
have that color reduced from inventory.

6. Ability to post a cart summary anywhere on site
Something like "Your cart contains 2 items" or more detail like last item
added "The Widget"

7. UPS - Home/Or Business selection
UPS bills more for home than office. Problem is, in SS you can choose either
home or business, not both. We had to choose home so as to not lose money on
home shipments, but our deliveries to businesses pay more than they should.
Maybe a pulldown select list" This is being delivered to: A Home ; A
Business

Xbit Hack is a way of making your HTML executable, thus permitting script
calls or server side includes (SSI) through a file with the .html extension.
Since SS requires page names to end in .html this was a limitation.

I use shopsite to generate a template thats approx 200 pixels across, and
then use an SSI to insert this "panel into" my shopsite generated "Home"
page.

http://www.overstocksafari.com is the example.

The thing is, most hosting services won't allow this, I happen to have a
dedicated server for SS.

on the Add/Edit Page/Product screens as a reminder for the benefit of people who
don't always know that web pages need an extension. ShopSite is capable of
naming the files it generates pretty much anything you want, including ASP and
PHP.

BTW, the reason i used XBIT was because on the "add a page " entry screen it
says "File name must end with ".html"" .

One thing I learned the hard way.
If you forget to put an extension on the file name you can cause problems.
So, when it says ' File name must end with ".html" ' remember that what is
means is 'YOU MUST USE AN EXTENSION'.
