Google Async code for Ecommerce tracking?

Postby wmax » Thu Jun 23, 2011 8:48 am

Hello

Where can I find the new async code for Google Ecommerce tracking ( Google example here: http://code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/tracking/gaTrackingEcommerce.html#Example )

I found the "new old" Google code example here http://www.shopsite.com/help/10.2/en-US/sc/pro/index.htm?page=/help/10.2/en-US/sc/pro/googleanalytics.html but I cannot find the async code example.

Where should I look?

Thank you in advance

What version of ShopSite do you have (or whats your URL)? In newer versions of ShopSite there are radio buttons to choose from and one of those radio buttons under Merchandising > Google Services > Analytics, is called "Asynchronous Google Tracking (recommended)." If you have an order version of ShopSite, this tracking code may not be available. However, you can still track most of the eCommerce abilities by turning on eCommerce tracking in your Google Account.

Hi

Thanks for the speedy response!

I am running 10sp2.

I did see that and I get that it will publish the basic Google tracking code but will it also create the ecommerce tracking portion on the check-out page?

Thank you

Yes it will add the code to the cart, checkout, confirmation (if you have one) and thank you page for your cart. You will want to make sure that you have enabled ecommerce tracking in your Google account by going to http://www.google.com/analytics/ > Log In > Click on your domain > Edit (on the right), and check that it says Ecommerce Website: Yes. If it does not, click on "Edit" (upper right), and change that setting.

Another thing that you may want to setup is a Goal Funnel to track cart abandonment in your ShopSite store. I have written a blog post which shows how to set this up.

Thank you I will check that out.

One last question, I am tracking across subdomains and I have already modified the code on my top level domain, where do I adjust this in shopsite?

Thank you again.

I'm working with a new client that does a lot of PPC. My typical clients generates all the leads they want from my natural SEO work and I don't normally use GA for stats. I have set up GA in SS 10 Pro for this client. He emailed me:

"We need a tracking system not just for the paid search campaigns but for any online
campaigns in general. For example, at at our other site we use custom links from Infusion
to track campaign results. Each campaign has its own link, and we can determine how
many orders and how much money we make from each campaign.

Infusion would not work in this case because the order form is not hosted by
Infusion. We need you to set up some sort of tracking system or install some
tracking software compatible with the shopping cart he is using. Google Analytics
does not track order results."

Am I missing something? From all I've read GA with E-commerce enable and a 'Funnel' set up can track results.

Am I off base?

Yes you can use a GA Funnel to track those results. I have a blog post on how to setup that type of funnel. The only difference from the blog post is that I am tracking cart abandonment...this merchant would just add their starting page URL rather than have the cart be the starting page.

Thanks - and I did read over your post and GA docs. I don't see where I can get $$$ for a specific conversion? Also I have enabled e-commerce tracking but SS is only allowing me to enter the standard code? Even if I check the radio for new tracking? And the SS help docs don't really explain this. Google help isn't very helpful either. Would be a lot easier to test if not a live site I could play with it, don't want to place a bunch of fake orders on live site to test..really frustrated with this thing and that does not happen often.

You can sign up for a demo store and place orders there. You would setup the Google Analytics for the demo store, then place some test orders.

Hmm...I hadn't really looked into the dollar amount (just focused on the URLs). Let me test that as well and get back to you. I will be able test that this afternoon.

I don't see a way to see the sales that come through with the GA Goals and Funnels. Another suggestion would be to use the ShopSite Pro associate tracking feature. You can add an associate, then when a customer comes to your website using that link, that would be noted on their order that it came through that link or associate. ShopSite will keep track of running totals. You can setup the associate tracking links to any ads or from specific image links. You setup associate tracking by going to Merchandising > Associates.

Thanks Lauren - the affiliate idea is good. I did find in the new version of GA there are reports with sales/products. I need to dig some more to see if I can tie with the conversion. I would think there is a way since GA is reporting $. The other thing I discovered is this client was mixing his GA account with the account I set up and entered in SS.
