Custom text on the thank-you page

I would like users to register (i.e., purchase a $0 product) before they get access to a free online file. It's a video, and it's probably too large to make it a download file. What I want is for them to go through the shopping cart and then get a link to the location of the video.

(Yes, I know that the location won't be secure and that if someone sends the link to another person they'll be able to get to it without registering. I'm not worried about it.)

Is there a way to customize the thank you page for a specific product? That is, I want to provide a link to the video, but only for people who have "purchased" this product.

What I would suggest would be to place a link to your video page on the customer registration "my account" page. That way, when a customer registers and logs in, they will see the link to that page. This will not require that they "purchase" a product, but they would not see the link without registering.

There is no automatic way to put text on the thankyou page for a particular product unless that product is a digital download product. IN that case you could have the download link display on the thankyou screen. However, if you are also selling digital download items the setting to display the link on the thankyou screen turns it on for all downloadable products so you would want to make sure you are using a payment method that captures the funds when the order is completed and not use something like COD or Check where you don't receive the money until long after the order is placed.

Another option would be to write an Order API script that displays the thankyou receipt. The script would check if the product is in the cart and then output your text along with all other data for the thankyou screen. If the product ins't in the cart your script would output a standard thankyou without the text.
