Download and pay for program

I have a program I want to upload to my website where customers can download the program and use it for a 30 day trial period. They can then go to the website and purchase the program and pay by credit card or paypal. Is ShopSite appropriate for this? Can it be accomplished without a merchant account?

I suppose that your application has a built in 30day timer and quits working after 30 days?
Is the product that they purchase going to be the exact same as what the download for the trial period?

You could use the digital download feature in ShopSite Pro to sell the product after the trial period. That would give them a link to download the product after they make the purchase.

Payment by PayPal could be implemented.

I believe a merchant account would be required to use any payment method other than PayPal or Google Checkout since that is how the funds are transferred from the credit card company to your bank. You can read more about using credit cards at http://shopsite.com/cc_101.html

The product they purchase is the exact same as that downloaded for the trial period. When payment is made, a registration code is sent the purchaser who enters it in the program to continue using the program. No further download is required.

If you are going to be sending them a registration code that would have to be done manually as there is no mechanism in ShopSite to generate such a code. You might be able create an Order API script that would create the registration code and then send the email receipt (you would have to turn ShopSite's receipt off). Depending on what payment method you use, you might want to send the registration code manually. If the payment gets delayed (such as a check on paypal) you may not get the money for a few days after the order is actually placed. So sending the code before you get the funds might be giving the code away free if the payment eventually fails.
