Is changing themes destructive?

Postby nsd999 » Tue May 10, 2011 11:18 am

Hi guys,

I hope you don't mind this simple question but I'm new to SS and need to do a little work on a SS store. We've got a very basic BizLand store running Shopsite Pro 10 r7.4. The homepage is just a header, list of categories & pictures, and a footer. Nothing else.. It's a fairly big store - about 8500 items and 400 pages..

Can I safely change themes without breaking something? Is there anything I need to check first?

Thanks,
Joe

Changing the theme under Preferences > Themes will change the template used for all pages, products, shoppingcart, giftcertificate customer registration. etc. Settings such as colors, image alignment, font size etc may also be changed. If you have assigned custom templates to any of those items it would replace them with the one for theme.

It will not change the actual data in your pages and products, but just modifies how they display. All features should move seamlessly between different themes that use the custom templates. Some of the older themes, Matte, Top Notch, Mondrian, Lefty, Plain for example, may not support some of the newer features.
