I have shopsite set up to calculate the shipping costs by weight. I have connected to the USPS and have also configured the shipping by weights. The system is doubling the cost to ship meaning:
item 1 is .5lb
item 2 is 1 lb
total weight should be no more than 8 or 9 dollars but instead the system is: calculating $16 - doubling the weight.
Can anyone help!!!!!

I'd like to add to that question...
Is Shop Site acting as if the items are shipping seperately?
For me that would be a good thing.

Re: Shipping Costs by Weight
If a container size /type is specified for a product then the product is assumed to ship individually and require a separate shipping rate. If no container size / type is assigned then products will be combined until they reach the maximum weight you specify for a package.

Re: Shipping Costs by Weight
so I want the items to ship together but I don't want the customer to be charged like they are shipping two packages. Do I have to specify a container size or can it just add the weight of the products together?
currently I am having issues because its charging the customer as if I am shipping two packages which is crazy! I need to fix this asap! Thanks so much for your help Jim!

Re: Shipping Costs by Weight
As I said, if you have box dimensions or a particular package type defined for the product, it will have a rate computed for that package, and each product would have it's rate calculated independent of other items.
If you select the "Ship by weight only (dimensions not used) " radio button for the products, then products will be combined until the total weight exceeds the Maximum Package Weight you have configured on the UPS, USPS or FedEx or Custom Shipping api and the rate for a single package of that weight will be calculated.

Re: Shipping Costs by Weight
Hi Jim- thanks for info. Quick clarification please
So if I want each individual product to have a specific freight charge I choose the dimension option and put in the appropriate size for each individual product...
1.) Does this tag each individual product or is the freight charge attached to the dimension size?
2.) Where do I put the individual freight charge (per individual product) in Shop site once I fill in the demension size?
thanks
John

Re: Shipping Costs by Weight
What shipping method are you using?
The dimension options only apply to UPS, USPS, FedEx or if you have written a Custom Shipping Add-0n script.
If you are using one of the ShopSite Shipping Rate Calculations: methods package size is not considered. The ShopSite Shipping Rate Calculations: methods, Base Shipping and Base Plus Shipping options enable extra fields on the product screen so you can add individual shipping costs for each product.

Hi Jim- Im using UPS.
BTW the link in the back office to go to ups online tool to register is down
I'm not looking to add seperate/extra charges for shipping. Im looking to have each product have its own shiping charge.
Is there a way to do that?
thanks

Re: Shipping Costs by Weight
The UPS problem was caused by a change that UPS made on their server. See this post for information on how to fix the problem.

Either of the method I mention in my last post, Base Shipping and Base Plus Shipping allow you to specify individual rates for each product. You have to enable one of those feature on the Shipping page and then products will have fields where you can enter rates for each.
