Custom Shipping module always selects first option

I have a custom shipping module that I use in conjunction with the USPS rates module however shopsite always selects the same shipping option.

In the shipping setup I have

Shopsige Shipping = none
USPS checked
Custom Shiping checked
use radio buttons
Shipping Option ordered ascending
Default Selecte Shipping Opion = First Displayed
Shipping Service Sidplay Order Custom, then USPS

The display on the shopping cart for shipments to the US is like

x Method 1
Method 2
USPS Priority
USPS Express

if I select say USPS Priority, and click Recalculate, the screen flashes but Method 1 is still selected.

For shipments to say Canada, the display is like
x Method 1
Intl First Class
Intl Priority

And if I select any of the options, the page refreshes and the correct option is selected.

If however in the first case (US) I only have Method 1 along with the USPS options, I can select any option and it sticks.

It appears that my module only works with one option. So is there a way to return several options so that any may be selected?

OK, I found the problem. The beloved &ret; entity required by USPS. Changing it to (R) everything works fine. I now have

Media Mail(R) instead of
Media Mail(®)
