Hi Chris, hi Loren,
all countries you want to deliver to, have postal codes. UK (and other ALL
European countries) has/have them, and Australia as well by the way.
The only country w/o postal codes I am aware off, is Egypt. We have several
customers there (dive operations with European management). But we always
deliver to their EU offices and they take care of the transport themselves.
Even fraud orders have ZIP codes, look at the email we received this morning

P.S: Chris, try using "non US/Canada" and not "foreign", that sounds more
polite. I am german, but I do not consider myself "foreign" to the US as I
have been living there for a while as student

Not really, countries other than US or Canada have postal codes too (I am
pretty sure Australia and Great Britain do). Also, unless you are using
UPS
shipping or the Custom Shipping Add-on, the country selection doesn't show
up until the checkout screen.
You can change the text next to the zip code field (Preferences -> Store
Text -> Shopping Cart), so perhaps adding something like "(enter 'none' or
'00000' if your country doesn't have postal codes)" to the text would help
if you accept international orders.

While we're on the subject of form options that don't work for foreign
customers:
Some of our foreign customers have trouble ordering becasue "zip/postal
code" is a required field and some don't have anything to put there.
