Shipping settings difficulty

Postby StompersMike » Tue Feb 22, 2011 9:47 am

My store has been using Shopsite since 2002. I've always had assistance with doing the maintenance and setups from a local resource person. Due to cost restraints I've taken over the daily duties and have run into difficulty changing shipping options in our Shopsite setups.

We currently offer complimentary U.S. domestic shipping for our boots. I need to change this to $5.00 for each pair of boots sold in U.S. I also need to setup an exclusion for our glove and t-shirt orders. If a customer purchases a pair of boots with the new $5.00 shipping charge and adds any number of gloves or t-shirts to the order, there should be no additional shipping charge for these items whether one or more.

Another glitch currently is when a customer only orders one or more pair of gloves or t-shirts without a boot purchase. In this sale there should be only one $5.00 charge for one or more gloves. Right now if you order more than one pair of gloves or t-shirts, there is a $5.00 charge for each one. Three pair of gloves would cost $15.00 shipping -- they should only cost $5.00. I'm somewhat lost in determining the settings for all of this. Is there someone on the forum who has experience with these setups? Thank you. -Mike McNamee, Owner Stompers Boots --http://www.stompersboots.com/

Sounds like you will want to use Base Shipping. You can go to Commerce Setup > Shipping > select Base Shipping, and only check the checkbox for the first option (Ground, or whatever you have named it). Then enter in that the shipping must be at least $5. After saving changes, you can go to Products > Edit Product Info, and in the "Shipping Charges" section, you will see the same shipping options (such as Ground) as in the configure shipping screen. In the Ground text box, enter $5 for all of your boots. Leave all other products (ie gloves and t-shirts) at $0. This will make it so that shipping is always $5, however, if the boot shipping charges equal more than $5 (ie, more than 1 pair of boots has been ordered), then the shipping charges will be the total of all the boots rather than the default of $5.

I'm still having heck of time understanding all the options. I seem to have succeeded with the February 22 question regarding the exclusion of my glove, t-shirt products....

I am now attempting to REMOVE the Second Day and NEXT DAY shipping option from our cart. (We have increased our drop-shipping options and now have much less inventory that can be direct shipped from our store. Customers will need to contact us for 2nd day and Next day options) How do I remove the Second Day and NEXT DAY choice from our cart?
Thank you.

You would go to Commerce Setup > Shipping > Configure, and uncheck the checkboxes next to those options. Save changes, then empty your shopping cart, re-add something to the cart, and check that the shipping options show up the way that you want.

Thanks for the continued feedback. We've now decided to keep free ground shipping for all our boots U.S. domestic shipping. I've gone into Base shipping and placed charge of $0.00 for Ground.
We do however need to charge $5.00 for our small items (gloves, t-shirts, socks) shipping domestic ground. Here's our glove page link for example:
http://www.stompersboots.com/gtwy_gloves-011.php
We need to REMOVE the pull-down "USA-UPS Ground-Domestic Shipping $0.00"
This will leave "USA-USPS All APO/FPO, AK, HI, PR US Territories $5.00"
And we need to keep the Canada and Worldwide the way it is.
We also need to be sure that there's only the ONE $5.00 charge if you order 3multiple pairs of gloves, it should be just ONE $5.00 charge.
The shortcut on this would be to just eliminate the first pull-down "USA-UPS Ground-Domestic Shipping $0.00"

I get a little cross-eyed and confused on this.

IN the backoffice of your store go to Commerce Setup > Shipping
Click the Configure button in the ShopSite Shipping Rate Calculations: section
Uncheck the box at the top of the column containing the name of the shipping
option you want to remove, "USA-UPS Ground-Domestic Shipping $0.00".

This didn't work. By unchecking the box to remove "USA-UPS Ground-Domestic Shipping $0.00" -- it did a Global removal of all our boot products for free shipping options

My intent is to preserve free ship for all boots and remove "USA-UPS Ground-Domestic Shipping $0.00" ONLY from the Gloves, T-shirts and Socks.

Sorry, I saw your statement "We need to REMOVE the pull-down "USA-UPS Ground-Domestic Shipping $0.00" and the only way to do that is as I described.

I really don't think there is a way to do the various shipping options that you want, free to some locations but charge for other locations, free for some products but charge for other options, charge for some products to certain locations but let them be free to other locations while if a different product is added to the cart that makes a charge now, etc using the ShopSite shipping options. Those the ShopSite shipping options were designed for simple shipping schemes and just don't allow for the shipping scheme that you want to implement.

I think your best bet would be to write (or have someone write for you) a Custom Shipping Add on module that can look at what the product is, and where the product is being shipped and then calculate a rate on a product by product basis.
