shipping cost

Postby gene » Sat Jan 15, 2011 12:37 am

I have an issue with the shipping cost. I have a UPS Ground of $67.08 for a 70lb item. But for 71lbs, UPS Ground jumps to $132.00. How could I get for a $75.00 and $100.00 shipping cost?

What shipping method are you using? The built in UPS shipping method or one of the ShopSite shipping options such as Ship by Weight?

If you are using the built in USP shipping method it uses actual rates supplied by UPS, which depend on where it is being shipped from and to based on their zip code.

Using the ShopSite Ship by Weight method you could set certain pound levels and base the shipping costs on that.

I use built in UPS Shipping method. I wonder why there is a huge jump in the cost:

East Coast (zip: 10027)
70lbs: $67.08
71lbs: $132.00

West Coast (zip: 98195)
70lbs: $42.26
71lbs: $108.86

Do you think is this accurate?

The shipping rates are not calculated by ShopSite, we only display the rates that UPS returns for the package size, weight and shipping destination. Try going to UPS's website and enter the same package data and see if the rates differ by the same amount for those packages.

Using UPS website, for 71lbs, I got $82.41 for 10027 and $52.99 for 98195. The package will be from 92833. Why is there a huge difference on the cost using our shopping cart?

ShopSite sends the information you have configured in your store to UPS and they calculate the rates base on that information. So check your product to make sure your have the proper Weight, Package type and whether it will be shipped by weight only or by package size.

Also check all the UPS configuration settings (commerce Setup > Shipping > UPS >Configure ) to see that they match what you specified on UPS's website. Settings such as if the package will be delivered to a business or residential address, how you get the package to UPS etc will all affect the price UPS.

The maximum package size you have configured will also make a big difference. If you have a maximum size of 70 lbs then a 71 lb package then the shopping cart will request rates for 2 packages that add up to 71 lbs not a single 71lb. package rate.

Also what version of ShopSite do you have, there may have been fixes for previous UPS issues so unless you have ShopSite 10sp2r2 you might not have the latest code.
