Product ID, File name & Google Feed Error

Postby VinceS » Tue Dec 28, 2010 9:59 am

A recent Google feed exposed an error that I'm unable to correct. It appears that when a product File name changes, Shop Site retains the default Product File name. For instance, this is an extract from the raw Google Feed for one of my products

<g:id>PID#4877</g:id>
<g:expiration_date>2011-01-25</g:expiration_date>

Lewmar Delta Anchor - Galvanized - 110 lb

<g:price>1965.95</g:price>
<g:image_link>http://www.ahoycaptain.com/shop/media/lewmar/delta.jpg</g:image_link>

This product at one time MAY HAVE had this File name at one time, but was changed to comply with our product naming standard(s).
The More Information Page "...shop/product4877.html#4877'/" does not exist.

The File name was changed some time ago to "lewmar_0057450.html". All works well on the site, the correct page is displayed. Yet somehow Shop Site has not updated the database to reflect the new File name for the Google feed.

How can this be corrected?

If you view the product in the back office of your store what is the moreinfo file name displayed there? That is what should be sent to google.

Note that you need to resend the feed to Google or it won't be updated. If you are having permissions issues on the server the older google feed file may not be able to be overwritten so you might check that the file is being updated on the server.

Vince,

Is the product only a sub-product and not assigned to a page? If so, this is a bug in ShopSite where sub-product only products generate the default filename for the Google feed instead of your custom moreinfo filename.

That's precisely my dilemma. The File name in the back office for PID#4877 is "lewmar_0057450.html".

As I said, the More Information Page displays properly. http://www.ahoycaptain.com/shop/lewmar_0057450.html

BUT I think I just figured it out as I'm writing this.

Look at page http://www.ahoycaptain.com/shop/lewmar_delta.html
This is NOT a SS Page, it's actually a SS Product (what we call a Group Product) and the individual products shown in the table at the bottom of the page are assigned to it as Sub-products. They are not "On" or assigned to any SS Page. I'm assuming that the More Information Pages do get regenerated and updated and the because they sub-products of the "parent product" and the "parent product" IS "On" a page.

Yup. Just tested it and that's what it was. The Product File name will NOT get changed/updated unless the Product is assigned to a Page. To test this, I assigned PID#4877 to a test page, published and ran a Google Feed. Sure enough, the File name now reflects the correct value.

Looks like I'll have to create a "catch all" page that will have all products in it.
