Passing an ID with an OrderAnywhere link

Postby youmon » Sat Nov 20, 2010 11:29 am

Any suggestions for the best way to accomplish the following: I'd like to give a partner web site a OrderAnywhere link. The partner wants to stick in a unique ID for their own tracking purpose. This unique ID is not related to my store nor the ShopSite app. They just want to see that ID associated and tracked with the order.

The only way I can think that you might possibly do something like that is if you put the tracking id as the SKU or part of the product name. Name, price, sku are about the only fields passed along with the product during the order.

That won't work. These ids are the partner's customers' ids and can number in the thousands. They should be regarded as random. So there is NO way to pass along a such a variable?

Not that I can think of. Allowing someone to interject random data into your orders or onto your website is a pretty big security risk. With all the cross-scripting threats on the web we spend a lot of effort in trying to keep such holes plugged.
