Problems after changing Base Url

Postby ccooley » Wed Oct 20, 2010 6:27 pm

Hi,

I'm a VAR in Chicago needing a bit of help...When I first setup Shopsite (at Fatcow) I was sure the Base url was the customer's vanity web address (www.*******.com). Somehow it's now been changed to the actual (*****.fatcow.com), and when talking to level II support. they say if I change it back and regenerate the store, I'll need to re-code the urls of every single one of 500+ graphic images. Is this true? and if so, is there any way around it? I can't seem to find anything on it in the help or on the net.

Thanks in advance.

What is the authorized url in the license flie. You can see this by going to Preferences > Hosting Services and look at the Store Settings section and the Store URL: field. Or by looking at the last line of the <storeid>.auth in the store's data directory. (Where <storeid> is the user name for the backoffice of the store.)

The images use the authorized url from the license file with /media appended to the url. You should be able to reset all ShopSite generated image urls on pages by going to Images and clicking the Reset All Attributes button and then regenerating the store (Utilities > Publish > Regenerate ) If the authorization file has the wrong url you will need to get an .auth file with the correct url. You may also need to make other modification to the <storeid>.aa file in the ss directory (or sc if a windows server).

Jim,

Thanks again for your reply quick reply.

I'd love to see what it is registered to, but when I go to Pref|Hosting Fatcow gives me "This area has been disabled for security reasons." And, with filemanager showing all system files, there are no .auth files visible in any directory of the /store. Am I caught in a licence issue? What would be your next move? Fatcow 2nd level support was less than helpful. They said, change the base URL and then hand code every picture url (500+). Some support.

Thanks for your help.

Login to your store as you normally do. Then change the cgi name in the url from start.cgi to diagnose.cgi. The authorization file will be displayed near the bottom of the screen that displays. The <storeid>.auth file is encrypted but you can read the last line which will include the authorized url, storeid, serial number etc.

Note that the .auth file is in the store's data directory which should not be in the /store directory because you don't want people using a web browser to have access to the data.
