How much down time to expect?

Postby hiamps » Thu Sep 23, 2010 8:34 am

We are once again thinking about changing hosting companies but are worried about downtime and our ignorance. Is there an average amount of downtime to expect? If we can give the new company out FTP passwards for our old host will they be able to do it all? Our shopping cart has locked up again and our host seems as lost as everytime before.....

If you choose a reliable and Shopsite-knowledgeable hosting company, they can do most of the legwork for you and your down-time should be next-to-nothing.

Of course, if those are the results you want, I strongly recommend Lexiconn....

I'd second the recommendation for Lexiconn. We hosted with another company for a couple of years, then switched to Lexiconn just about two years ago after one too many extended downtimes.

Lexiconn guys are pro's, at hosting, AND shopsite. And don't leave you guessing what's going on.

I no longer worry about host-caused downtime. Now it's just me who breaks things :)

The down time of the server is an interesting thing to discuss. I think most web hosting companies have a down time of 0,01% but I am always not quite sure if this is okay or not. I actually want them to have no down time but unfortunately this is not possible. :P I think almost all web hosting companies have nearly the same down time so I would not take the down time as argument.

So far I disagree about downtime, Lexiconn was able to get our website up and running faster than Hostcentric was even able to fix it, I waited to cancel to make sure all was good. So far we have had no downtime and every question we have had has been answered in minutes instead of hours. The person answering is the actual person that fixes things, not some Pier 1 support hired just to pacify!!!!Our website is even bigger now and our back office is like lightning. My manager keeps the site updated much better now that it doesn't take forever to publish the site. I bet I called Hostcentric at least 15 times because our site was stuck on publish for hours and we couldn't make changes. We are completely happy we made the change and feel we made the best choice.
Too bad they can't make us better designers....LOL
