Error accessing orders

Postby gkrehbiel » Tue Sep 21, 2010 8:55 am

My Shopsite 10 pro install has been doing great for more than a year now, but just recently when I try to access the "orders" area I get this error message.

Error

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Query failed: near "Al": syntax error(1)

What does that mean?

Thanks,

Greg

It means that the orders couldn't be accessed. There are lots of possible reasons, corruption in the database, bad data in one of the orders, permissions issue etc.. Your best bet would be to contact your host for assistance if they are a ShopSite Partner. If they can't find the problem they can contact ShopSite for assistance. If your store is not hosted at a partner that provides support you can purchase a support incident directly from ShopSite at: http://shopsite.com/support_pricing.html

Looks like quotes did it

Thanks for the response, Jim.

I get cc'd on the confirmation email for all the orders, and one of them came across with quotes in the name, like this.

Alphonso "Al" Jones

It looks like that's the problem, which raises two issues.

1. I think you need to update Shopsite to accommodate that sort of character in the name.

2. How do I fix this? How do I go back in and update that individual record?

We host this ourselves, so I need to give instructions to my systems guy on how to find and fix that record.

Thanks,

Greg

Since you have the email with the order number on it try going to the orders screen and instead of doing a List all do a Search. If you have orders before that one that you need to process search for orders before that number (i.e. OrderNumber "Is less than") , Then do a search for orders after than number (Order number "is greater than") and then do a search for just that order number. That might let you see all of the orders. Once you have viewed and processed the problem order delete it from ShopSite so it won't continue to cause problems.

I tried to duplicate the issue in a ShopSite 10sp2 r2 store and could not cause the error you saw, when I used quotes in a name. The issue may have been fixed between the version you have and the latest one.
