Add to cart not going to cart

ShopSite® Pro 10 sp2 r2 new installation

When adding a product to a cart (using order anywhere) shopsite doesn't go the the cart but rather back to the page it was ordered from.

I can tell from my browser auto fill-ins that in the past, for other of our websites, I've searched on this in the forums and in the knowledge base using many search criteria and again, today, I search all over but only get a bazillion hits, none of which help.

I've tried every possible combination of "Commerce Setup -> Order System -> Shopping Cart -> Default for the "Show me my shopping cart" checkbox
and -> Do not display the "Show me my shopping cart" check box
all to no avail.

I know this is an option someplace but I can find it. Any idea where this is?

What is the URL to your website?

There is an option to not have the customer go to the cart when they click "add to cart." If you have unchecked this checkbox, then you, as the customer, would not be sent to the cart unless you press "view cart." To check if this is the case you can go to Commerce Setup > Order System > Shopping Cart, and check to make sure that the "Default for the "Show me my shopping cart" checkbox" is checked.

Yes, Default for the "Show me my shopping cart" checkbox" is checked. Like I said, I tried every combination of those two checkboxes and there was no improvement.

Important to note here is that the wording of that checkbox seems to me to be confusing in it's own right and doesn't sound like it has anything to do with this situation anyway. There is no "Show me my shopping cart" checkbox anywhere to be seen so how can this checkbox have any influence over a checkbox that can't be seen?

You are trying to set it up so that the customer is taken to the cart whenever they click add to cart, correct? If that is the case, then when I went to your website and added something to the cart, it took me straight to the cart.

Were you emptying your cart whenever you made a change? That is a very important thing to do when making changes to the cart settings.

The two fields dealing with showing the shopping cart when ordering are found on the Commerce Setup > Order System > Shopping cart screen.

Default for the "Show me my shopping cart" checkbox
Do not display the "Show me my shopping cart" check box

By default there will be a checkbox on the shopping cart screen with the text configured on Preferences > Store Text > Shopping cart in the second field called "Show me my shopping cart every time I order something. : "

The first option above, 'Default for the "Show me my shopping cart" checkbox' determines if the checkbox is checked or not checked when the shopper goes to the shopping cart. I.e. if you check the checkbox "Show me my shopping cart" on the Commerce Setup > Order System > Shopping cart screen then in the cart the box will be check when the shopper first gets there. If you uncheck the box on the Commerce Setup > Order System > Shopping cart screen then when the shopper first goes to the cart it will be unchecked. The shopper will still have the option to check or uncheck the box in the shopping cart. If they uncheck it then they will not go to the cart when they add a product and will have to click a "View Cart" button on a page to view their cart.

The second option "Do not display the "Show me my shopping cart" check box" makes it so the shopper never sees the checkbox on the shopping cart. This means that they will not have the option of checking it (since it isn't there) and will always have to use a View Cart buttton to get to the cart after adding an products. This is something that some merchants and shoppers like, especially if they are adding numerous items to the cart since they don't have to repeatedly click a continue shopping button. If shoppers in your store typically only order 1 or 2 products you may want to leave the option for them to view the cart each time they add a product since that will make it easier for them to checkout after adding the product (they won't have to find a View Cart button on a store page).

Right you are! Thanks, I didn't know that. Going directly to the cart, emptying and then adding stuff in again caused it to start working they way I wanted.
