allow customers to input a custom price?

Postby iceq » Sat Sep 04, 2010 3:08 pm

Hello

I have began using Shopsite free version to test it. I sell custom services, with no fixed prices. For instance, a logo design which I charge for based on the time I spend on creating it.

I added the products alright, yet it is useless for me to assign a fixed price for each product, and I rather want the customer to be able to input the price we agreed on (on the email), and after he pays, I and him get notified of the completion of the payment, so I would deliver to him the service he requested.

Is that possible, and if not, what alternatives do I have ?

Thanx !

The feature you want is called Variable Pricing and is in the ShopSite Pro and Manager level stores. This feature is not in the Starter level of ShopSite.
You can find help on it at: http://shopsite.com/help/10.2/en-US/sc/mgr/edit.product.info.html for manager level store and
http://shopsite.com/help/10.2/en-US/sc/pro/edit.product.info.html for Pro level stores.

It generally requires a custom template to enable the variable price feature in addition to the setting for the product. The latest version of ShopSite, 10 sp2 has 2 templates that use the variable pricing, donation.sst and auction.sst. You could look at the source for those templates and see how it is implemented.

Thank you. But are you saying that although I do not yet own a manager of a pro version of Shopsite, I still can have Variable Pricing functionanilty by copying it from the donation.sst and auction.sst templates ?

No, you must upgrade to manager or pro before the templates would work. But once you upgrade you could use those templates as examples of how to implement the feature for your special case since it doesn't sound like either would work directly for you.
